Week of January 28th, 2013

Last friday, I found myself in a situation that is quite rare for me: I had completed my projects before the deadline. Instead of doing nothing, I spent this class and the next class, which was my free period, making a new piece from an idea I had the other day. This is probably the fastest I've ever done a piece, and it's a surprisingly good piece. I used some techniques that I've never done before as well, so this was a good learning experience in addition to being fun.

Post-its.

This week, I was assigned two tasks, to combine two separate images, and to use three separate colors on one image to create an emotional response. I decided to use one piece to achieve both requirements, and what resulted is my favorite piece I've done yet. I took a photo of myself using the computer's camera, and then I took an image from wikimedia commons of a post it type sticky note and covered my face with it, and put my eyes and glasses over it so it appeared to be a part of the post it notes. I then  made two copies of the image next to the original, and used the color replacement tool to color it to create emotion, and the results were unexpectedly cool! I really enjoyed making this piece, especially since at the beginning this piece seemed as if it would be not very good. I'm very proud of my work!

Week of January 14th, 2013

This week, I almost finished my name piece. I think that what I have so far is a very strong piece, however I feel like I need to do something more before I can call the piece completed. Yesterday, I began a new piece, in which I will creatively combine two things into one image, and I'm contemplating doing something meta with my face and Post-it notes, but we'll see what happens with that.

Name Piece 2

This week, I continued work on my name piece, and I have completly rethought it, and I'm very happy with how it is piecing together. I have used the mixer brush exclusively for this piece so far. The inspiration for this piece struck almost immeaditly after my previous blog post, and I'm so enthusiastic about this piece that I've used a lot of free periods/ lunch/ breaks to work on it. I can't wait to see how it all turns out!

Name Project

This week, we were assigned to do a project that reflects on the meaning of our name, in one way or another. Apparently my last name means spear, my middle name, Wade, means traveller, and my first name, Richard, means brave ruler. However, I prefer the urban dictionary definition, which includes, among other glowing remarks, the most amazing guy ever, the nicest guy ever, and the super attractive male who every girl dreams of. I find all of these to be relevant, so I may incorporate some of this into my project. At this point, I'm still in the planning phase, but I did make a very cool monogrammed spear in Photoshop!
