Painting Tutorial II

This week, I continued my painting tutorial, which has, since last week, morphed from Mortal Kombat into Thor. Unfortunately, this change has not made much of a difference in the extreme difficulty of this project. I have learned that I am not good at painting in photoshop unless I have something i can trace, either from paper into the tablet, or tracing over an image in Photoshop. Hopefully over time, this skill will improve, however for now, the level of quality on this project is nowhere close to the quality of my other projects, even though the effort I've put into this is higher than I've put into others. This is what I've done so far.

Painting PIece

Over the course of this week, I made a valliant attempt to paint. Unfortunately, I'm not very good. It has taken an inordinate amount to time to get this far on my piece, and I'm willing to call it quits. In other news, my dali piece was submitted to the show.

Surrealism 3

This week I completed a third surrealism piece, and again, I think this is one of my best pieces yet. For most of the week, I was having trouble making the piece work, but then on wednesday, I pulled it together, and was able to make it work, and work well. I really learned a lot making this piece, and I feel like I am improving fast.

80's Themed Poster

For this week's project, I followed a tutorial for an 80's themed poster. This is the coolest tutorial I've ever done, and I have had so much fun making this piece. Though it isn't completely finished, I think it is among my most polished pieces. I can't wait to see what it's like once its complete.

Finished Surrealism II Piece

This week I finished my second surrealism piece. I'm really happy with the way it turned out. I used the pen tool for the majority of this piece, and I'm enjoying becoming more proficient with it. You can tell by the quality of the piece that I'm starting to get the hang of the pen tool. I also found some cool tire track, smoke, and broken glass brushes, which after a bit of transformation, worked perfectly for my piece. This is definitely one of my best quality pieces, and I'm very happy with it.

SURREAL PIECE 2 II

This week, I continued work on my 2nd surreal piece that I mentioned in my previous post. For one element of this piece, I used the pen tool to make a vector graphic of an E30 BMW, which I'm going to attach to this post. This is probably the best work I've done with the pen tool, and some of my very best work ever. I'm very excited to finish this piece!

2nd Surreal Piece

This weeks project is another surreal piece based on a story. Mine involves aliens, BMWs, and hit and runs. So far, I'm using only the pen tool, however I haven't been working on this for very long. I like where it appears to be going, and I cannot wait to see how it will turn out.

More Than Usual Contest

This week I made a piece for the Worth 1000 contest entitled more than usual, in which you take a common thing, but make it "more than usual." For this, I took the iPhone 4, and added a couple extra buttons and cameras. It turned out pretty well, though on the home buttons, I need to fix the shadows, as we decided in the critique. I had few to no major issues/ stumbling blocks in the creation of this particular piece, which I attribute to the minimalist nature of the iPhone and it's components.

Cute+Scary Childrens Book Cover II

This week I completed my Cute and Scary Children's book cover project. It was probably the most fun project I've done all year, and one of my best too. I used the pen tool for nearly everything in this project, as well as a couple custom bloodstain brushes I downloaded, which were really, really great! I think having an idea of what I wanted to do and having a vision made this project enjoyable and better executed than past projects.

SCARY CHILDRENS STORY

The piece I'm currently working on is a scary children's book cover. For mine, I'm doing a parody of a senior who was in my intro to graphics class last year. He would always wear his batman hoodie, and expressed a hatred of cats, though he would frequently depict demonic cats in his art. He also had a very profound love of Herman Cain and other extreme republican "politicians". I decided to combine all this into one scary vector based image. I'm really having fun with this and can't wait to see how it turns out!

Surrealism Piece III

Here is my surrealism piece, which I finally finished, I'm really happy how it evolved in the last day or two of working on it. I added the clouds, and played around with adjustment layers and blending modes, and it came out really well. This is one of the best pieces I've done do far, and I'm excited to do more like it!

Chalk Warfare

Last night, I was browsing the internet, when I found an incredible video on my tumblr. It is called chalk warfare. The concept is war with weapons drawn from chalk, which by itself is a pretty cool concept. Often, when something has a concept this cool, it turns out to be poorly executed. This video, however is an exception. This has a great concept, and is perfectly executed. Apparently this is the second of two Chalk Warfare videos, and the improvement from the first is very noticeable. The artistic shots and nature of this concept are just so intriguing to me, it makes me want to do something to build upon it. Chalk Warfare Video

Surealism Post II

Last week, I began work on a surrealism piece for the Dali Show 2012. This week I've continued work on it. I've had a difficult time choosing a background, however the piece is coming together. I finished painting in the E30 BMW with the mixer brush, as well as adding in several elements. It is getting much closer to completion, however, at this moment, it isn't done yet. It should probably be done by tomorrow, that is my goal.

Surrealism Piece I

This week I've been working on a surrealism piece for the DalĂ show 2012. It isn't done yet, but I'm making good progress. The entire piece is painted using the mixer brush in Photoshop CS6. I started with a sketch that I had done in class with a flair pen. I then copied that idea to my ipad, and added more to it. From there, using the Wacom tablet, I again remade the piece in Photoshop, again adding more elements, and revising others. I first traced just the outlines, then I used the colored pencil mixer brush, but I didn't like the direction that was going, so I switched to the mixer paintbrush. I then added an image of an E30 BMW which I painted as well to add more variety to the piece. Right now, I'm working on filling in the background, but I'm not entirely sure how I want to do that.

Fractals 3

This is the third and final piece in my series of fractal pieces. Once again, I used actions and shapes in photoshop to create this piece.

Fractals 2

Here is another fractal piece that I made using actions. I really enjoyed making these and the semi-random nature of their creation.

Fractals

Using actions in Adobe Photoshop CS6, I was able to make some very cool fractal images. This was often a dull and slow process due to the long time it took to do anything, even save, because there were so many layers. There were hundreds of layers in each piece. This is one of my favorite pieces that I have ever made.

Honda CL450 Painting

For this piece, I used the mixer brush to paint a 1969 Honda CL450, using a photograph as my guide.  Its not totally complete yet, but its a work in progress, so thats ok.

Worth 1000 Movie Poster

I made this piece for a Worth 1000 contest in which you were to combine two movie posters. For mine, I used Inception, within Inception, and called it inception squared. This plays upon the fact that in the movie, it's all about dreams inside of dreams.

Piece of Mind

This is my most recent piece. It started off as a pencil drawing, which I scanned and opened in Photoshop, where I used pencil and colored pencil brushes to re-draw it.
